Working with Children though Play

Where words are hard to find, play speaks instead.

Child Questioning Interaction

Children don't always have the language to explain what they're feeling, and even when they do, sitting and talking about it isn't always the easiest way in. Play is a child's natural way of communicating - through it, they can express, explore, and process experiences and emotions that might otherwise stay stuck.

Play therapy offers a safe, non-judgemental space where children can lead, using toys, art, sand, and storytelling to work through what's going on for them, at their own pace. There's no pressure to "talk about it" - the therapeutic work happens through the play itself, with the therapist there to notice, reflect, and gently support the process.

Play therapy can help children experiencing:

  • Anxiety, big emotions, or difficulty regulating.

  • Changes at home (separation, a new sibling, bereavement).

  • Difficulties at school or with friendships.

  • Behavioural changes that feel out of character.

  • The impact of a neurodivergent diagnosis.

  • Adjusting after a difficult or frightening experience.

Parents and guardians are involved throughout, with regular check-ins to support what's happening at home alongside the work in sessions.
